Quick Meals: Shrimp, Cherry Tomatoes, Avocado Orzo/Orecchiette

As promised, here's a quick meal that will get you in and out of the kitchen in 30 minutes. Personally, I think this recipe works better with orzo as there's less surface area for the tomatoes to cover.
  1. Boil orzo/orecchiette
  2. Sauté the shrimp (in kitchen noob's terms: heat oil on a pan and add shrimp). Add salt and all purpose seasoning for taste.
  3. Remove shrimp from the pan and add cherry tomatoes to heated pan until they've blistered.                     (No need to clean the pan between removing the shrimp and adding the tomatoes. This way the tomatoes will soak up all the flavors from the shrimp)
  4. Add shrimp and orzo/orecchiette to the pan and mix until the tomatoes juices have coated the pasta
  5. Top with avocado and enjoy!
Tip - Get the deshelled and deveined shrimp to maximize efficiency.

What to do this weekend (Spa edition)

Are you bored of going to the same bars and doing the same thing every weekend but don't want to spend time researching what else this city has to offer? Well, I'm here to do your homework for you!

Today's post is for those of you who's had a long, stressful week at work and are looking to decompress.  And what better way to relax than a long, hot soak in a tub, right? Well, since we're all overachievers here, how bout six tubs and a steam room?

Cue Aire Ancient Baths.

With baths of varying temperatures and salinity, a eucalyptus scented steam room and a warm marble slab to take a nap on, it's hard not to feel relaxed and rejuvenated afterwards.  But what really made the experience for me was their service. They were extremely well organized and worked hard to make sure you had the most stress free experience possible. There was no wait time, the pools were not jam packed and the staff very attentive (after my shower, the lady asked to dry my swimsuit and proceeded to fold and pack it in a zip lock bag for me).  Plus, the space itself is beautiful and the bathrooms spotless

Now I understand why those Greeks and Romans were so into bathing.

Helping you decipher business casual: Black and White edition

I used to stray away from pairing white shirts with black pants for fear of looking like a waitress (really not the look you want to be gunning for when climbing the corporate ladder). So in today's post I wanted to show how you can make a black and white ensemble look corporate chic.

The trick I've learned is to pick a white shirt with interesting details, whether it be the material, the cut, or in this case - the pleats and buttons on the collar.  I also chose to pair mine with a pale yellow cardigan and oxfords with bright orange soles to lend it a summer feel.

Chocolate, Pistachio, Sea Salt Cookies

Since the last quick meal I posted involved using pistachios to punch up a boring vegetable dish, I thought I'd keep with the theme (read: help you use up any leftover pistachios) and show you how to incorporate them into one of the most classic desserts - chocolate chip cookies. I know the recipe sounds fancy, but I promise it really isn't any more difficult than sprinkling two additional ingredients to your usual chocolate chip cookie.

Although this isn't what I'd call a quick meal, I figured hey it's the weekend, you deserve to slow down, pamper yourself and make your apartment smell like Levain Bakery (Tip: They deliver! To your door!).  While you're at it, go run yourself a hot, bubbly bath - you've earned it.

What to wear to work: Summer Brights (Part II)

Apparently I'm a big fan of pairing red tops with patterned bottoms (just check out my post here). Anyway, here's a colorful, office appropriate look for those of you who tend to stick with the neutrals.
Happy thank-god-we're-past-Hump-Day!

PS - Woodbury Commons is a great place to stock up on cute, work outfits without breaking the bank. I managed to snag this top and skirt for under $100,  less than 1/4 of the retail price!

What to wear to work: Subtle details

If you're like me and you work in a corporate, predominantly male environment, work outfits usually consist of variations of pastels for guys and monochromatic tones for girls. So in keeping with this color palette, here's an office appropriate outfit that won't call for too much attention but has subtle details (polka dots, a blueish sheen, and lavender snake skin) that will give your look that extra je ne sais crois.

Have a happy Monday and a fashionable start to your week!

xx

Introducing "That Working Life"

If you've been following along before, you'll notice I decided to rename my blog and, as the name implies, streamline the content to focus on how to navigate work life.

I love reading blogs, but since graduating from college, I had trouble finding a good lifestyle blog that I could relate to. The ones I used to follow were either professional bloggers who made cute little DIY things (which I no longer have time for), or fashionistas with cool outfits that I can no longer wear during the week.

I searched high and low for a good blog written by a young professional, with tips on how to dress for work (because god knows I really did not. My colleague once asked me why I was dressed like "a nun fell through the rainbow") or meals that you could whip up in under 30 minutes (I'm looking at you Gordon Ramsay, your 30 minute meals are never as easy as you make them seem).

But I couldn't find one. So I decided to take matters in my own hand.

I don't profess to be an expert on what to wear to work or how to make quick, delicious meals, but I'm here to share my tips and recipes whenever I can. Of course, I would love to hear from you if you have any advice!

Happy Fourth of July!

Happy fourth of July!

This romper has been one of my favourite pieces this summer, not only is it easy, breezy (cover girl! I had to...) But the lace-y cut out at the waist makes this the most flattering fake-out on the whole crop top trend. I mean seriously... unless you're wafer thin and blessed with a flat stomach, you really should skip out on this trend. Oh and while you're at it, feel free to hop right over the whole frumpy sandal trend too.

(Funnily enough, two years ago today, I also ended up posting about another red, white, blue ensemble.)

Have a beautiful long weekend and enjoy the sunshine for me!
(Because of course, New York being New York, we just had to get hit by a hurricane.)
