Spring Break - Part I (Dominican Republic)

Ahh... finally - TIME! It's been awhile old friend and it's good to have you back!
It's been a crazy whirlwind of travel these past couple of weeks. And no matter how much I love traveling, man does it feel good to be home.
The very first stop on my trip was Dominican Republic. DR was just what I imagined - vast expanses of sand interspersed with a palm tree or two here and there. (Although I must say beaches in Asia are still better... I'm not biased, I promise!)
We avoided the popular Spring Break destination - Punta Cana, and settled down in the more secluded Las Terrenas. There we rented out a beautiful little villa overlooking the ocean where we lazed for six long days, and did nothing but nap under the sun, swim in the pool until our fingers turned prune-y and play mafia games poolside.

DR was beautiful and it was wonderful to spend my last spring break with the people I love. But the best part of the trip was perhaps my detox from technology - no phone, no internet, no nothing. It was so refreshing to just... be.  I'm determined to isolate myself from the world at least once a month. (Although now that I'm back in the city and hyper-connected again, this seems less and less realistic. hah!) I guess that's why they call it a vacation.

Spring!

I've been gone for the past week and a half (Spring Break) and this is what I came home to -- fully bloomed flowers and deliciously warm weather. It's like I never left DR. How can everything change so drastically in a week's time?!

Regardless, enjoy the very first day of spring, my loves!

Stephen Wildish

Stephen Wildish's imagination really is quite wild-ish. (Oh yes, I know... I can't believe I just did that either haha) But seriously though, I don't think I've ever been this entertained by vent diagrams before. I kind of love the ham one too, mostly because he's British and used the word "posh", which just makes it all the more obnoxious.
For more of his work, check out his website here.

Must dash now! Ta-ta!

Paris Fashion Week - Christian Dior

I think after all these fashion week posts (particularly the one were I'm just outright gushing about Elie Saab here), you've probably pinned down my style -- girly, whimsical, and fascinated with the dainty kind of pretty. So, I don't think it comes as a surprise that Dior's latest collection caught my eye.

Let's start off with the muted pieces -- oh... how graceful, and how ballerina princesses (all the way down to the ballet style shoes!). It just makes me want to twirl round and round in them. But the collection was not entirely light and ethereal; structured knee length skirts, loud colors and lush fabrics provided a nice counterpoint.

Rain, rain

(Go check out his work, he takes some pretty darn spectacular photos!)

"Rain, rain, go away
Come again another day."

I never liked rainy days when I was a kid (except maybe when school got cancelled during black rainstorm warning). But lately I've found myself growing a strange kind of affinity for it. Maybe it's the intriguing melancholy that shrouds the city, or the calming pitter-patter against the window, or maybe it's simply that your umbrella shields you from the world and you can spend an entire day walking around the city making zero eye contact (it really is a strangely pleasant feeling).

But you know what I love most about rainy days?
The sweet, warm smells of cookies (I've got mint chocolate chip cookies in the oven), a good book (currently in the middle of Lolita) and jazz (Tony Bennett is playing on Pandora). Speaking of Tony Bennett, I really should do a post sometime on all the duets he's done with the latest crop of pop stars - Lady Gaga included!

In the mean time, it's back to some good ol' reading in bed.
